Akkerman Fortress

Your full-day outing begins with a motor coach transfer, which will take you to Belgorod-Dnestrovsky City, located not far from Odessa. On your way out of the city and into the countryside you will pass small farms, quaint villages, beautiful orchards and lush vineyards. Akkerman Fortress is a wonderful complex of buildings and fortifications that have survived from the ancient Greek city of Tyras (6th century B.C. to 4th century A.D.), the early medieval town of Belgorod (6th-10th centuries A.D.) and the Akkerman Fortress (12th-19th centuries A.D.), located on the River Dniester Estuary.

The fortress is the only example of medieval military engineering that has survived in southwestern Ukraine. Originally there were 3 gates, 20 towers, a defensive wall, a defense entrenchment, baths and a minaret (the earliest in Ukraine remains of Turkish architecture). Your guide will escort you on a fascinating exploration of the ancient fortress.

After this excursion a local restaurant welcomes you for a Ukrainian style lunch, during which you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a folk concert.
