Feodosiya is the ancient city, founded under the name of Theodosia by Greek Colonists from Miletos in the 6th century B.C. In the 13th century, traders from Genoa arrived to Feodosiya and established trading settlement called Caffa or Kaffa, which monopolized trade in the Black Sea area and served as the chief port and administrative center for the Genoese settlements around the Black Sea. Modern Feodosiya is a popular resort city. There are many mineral springs, mud baths and beaches. Feodosiya is known as the city, where the prominent painter Ivan Aivazovsky lived and worked all his life. It is also the town where the general Petr Kotlyarevsky and the writer Alexander Grin spent their last years. The next visit of the day will be to Aivazovsky’s Picture Gallery. The spacious hall displays unique collection of his paintings, which counts about 150 works. Local restaurant welcomes you for lunch. Take a short visit along shady streets of Prymorsky Boulevard, passing by Aivazovsky Fountain, St. Constantine Tower, old buildings of city. Return back to Kerch port.
