The history of the present-day Eupatoria goes back to the times of the ancient town of Kerkinitis. The town coined its own money that characterized it as a highly developed economically and politically country. In the middle of II century B.C. it was conquered by Scythians and the town was ruined. At the end of the same century Greeks won back this ancient town of Kerkinitis. Greek warrior Diofant established here fortress that he called Eupatorion in the honor of Tsar Mitridat VI Eupator. It was the first mention of the modern name of the town. In XV century a new town of Gezlev was built on the place of former Eupatorion. Gezlev had a lot of buildings, which were separated into small districts. There used to be Greek, Armenian, Muslim and Gipsy districts. Gezlev was famous for its minarets, beautiful fountains, Turkish Baths and water pipe.

During Crimean War Eupatoria was used for landing operation of coalition of Great Britain, France and Turkey. Turkish garrison was based in Eupatoria. From the beginning of the middle of XIX century and till nowadays Eupatoria has been developing as resort area famous for its curative facilities and rich historic, cultural heritage. Nowadays Eupatoria is as much interesting and attractive as the ancient one. Eupatoria is made up by the intricate combination of traditions and modern way of life that can be observed in everything — architecture, culture, and town’s everyday life.
