Akhun Mount and Stalin's dacha
Duration: 4 hours Walking: high
Stretching north-west to south-east parallel to the sea coast, Akhun massif is a 5-kilometre long mountain range famous for its rich myriad flora. Located at the very peak of Mount Akhun, a tower built in 1936 and designed by architect S. Vorobieoy resembles the original fortress towers in the Caucasus. Its lofty elevation – 663 metres above sea level – commands vast panoramic views over the National Park, the Greater Caucasian range, the resort of Sochi and the endless space of the Black Sea.
Then continue your drive toward Zelenaya Roscha (Green Grove), site of the former summer residence (dacha) of Joseph Stalin, situated 4 miles from seaport. On arrival, there is a 5-minute walk from the parking area to the dacha, which is situated inside an old park. During your visit you will note that the atmosphere and interior has been preserved as in Stalin’s time. At the end of your house tour, you will be offered a taste of Stalin’s favorite Georgian wine. Departing Zelenaya Roscha, you will head back toward Sochi. Your tour concludes with a sightseeing tour of Sochi during which your guide will point out major sights. | |
